Drifted 20 Miles On Rough Lake
(New Zealand Press Association! ROTORUA, December 4. Two men whose 12-foot dinghy drifted 20 miles on Lake Taupo last night were found fit and well by a searching aircraft at midmorning today.
They are Mr N. R. Troy, aged 22, of Otorohanga, and Mr I. Bramwell, aged 24, of Turangi. They were fishing yesterday off the Kurutau spit at the sound end of the lake in relatively sheltered waters when their boat ran out of petrol and started to drift. The wind was a strong south-westerly and the lake was rough.
Although one of the men was seasick all night, the two kept the boat afloat. Relatives notified the Taupo police at 11 o’clock last night tnat the men were missing, bu a search was unsuccessful. Tokaanu police and local residents went out at daylight today in boats, and the Taupo Search and Rescue Organisation was notified. A search and rescue aircraft from Taupo spotted the men at 10.45 a.m. sheltering on a beach between Rotongaio and Hatepe on the north-east shore of the lake.
