HAWKER BID OF £25m.
Big Electrical Firm Involved (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, December 1. The big Hawker Siddeley Aircraft group has made a £2sm take-over bid for Crompton Parkinson, the electrical engineering concern. The bid was announced after the two stock exchange firms dealing in Crompton shares had taken the unusual step of suspending dealings. For several days the price has been edging up, culminating in a jump of Is to 9s 9d sterling. The Hawker bid—one share plus £4 12s for every 12 Crompton shares —works out at about 10s 9d a share. There was no immediate acceptance by the Crompton Parkinson board. A statement later said the offer was being considered and the merchant bankers, Kleinwort Benson, had been asked for advice.
