Union Rower Wins Haberfield Singles

T. Armstrong, of the Union Rowing Club, won the Haberfield singles held at Kerrs Reach on Saturday by a good six lengths from his club-mate, R. Satherby. As the crews appeared round the bend into the final stretch, Armstrong’s lead was already established, though it appeared F. O’Gorman, of Avon, was giving Satherby a good run. However, Satherby had little trouble keeping a distance of two lengths between himself and O’Gorman as they crossed the line. Water conditions were ideal but there was no fast competitive sculling. Most races took the form of a leisurely procession, with boats moving staidly down the course. Results:—

Heat 1: F. O'Gorman (Avon) 1. P. Sullivan (Union) 2, A. Scoble (Canterbury) 3. Five lengths, a distance. Heat 2: R. Satherby (Union) 1, N. Malcolm (Avon) 2, B. Bromley (Canterbury) 3. A distance, four lengths. Heat 3: T. Armstrong (Union) 1, B. Taylor (Canterbury) 2. A distance. Final: T. Armstrong 1, R. Satherby 2. F. O Gorman 3. Six lengfihe, .two lengths.
