1000 BALES OF HAY DESTROYED
About 1000 bales of hay were destroyed by fire on a farm in Leadleys road, Ladbrooks, early on Saturday morning, but the Lincoln Volunteer Fire Brigade saved another 2000 bales and the big hay barn.
The brigade was called at 6.18 a.m. and found much of the hay white hot and smoking. Dampened bales were dragged out and burst into flames. This fire helped to give the Lincoln volunteers a busy week-end. They were called out at 8.52 p.m. on Friday to Weedons, where a fire had been extinguished by the time
they reached it. At 3.25 p.m. yesterday the brigade went to the corner of Tancreds and Springs road where there had been a collision and one car had caught fire and the blaze spread to grass. The firemen had not been home long when they were called out to the Prebbleton poultry farm fire. This was the hundredth call answered since the brigade was formed three years ago. In the first year there were 21 fires, last year 41 and so far this year 38 calls have been answered.
