PASSING OUT
Men Parade At Burnham About 1200 spectators watched the passing-out parade of between 300 and 400 members of the No. 14 National Service Training Unit at Burnham Military Camp yesterday afternoon. The troops were reviewed by the retiring commander of the Southern Military District (Brigadier T. C. Campbell), for whom it was his last official parade. During the afternoon the troops gave demonstrations of infantry tactics, vehicle handling and physical training, and a highlight was the presence of two R.N.Z.A.F. aircraft—a Bell Sioux helicopter, which demonstrated the evacuation of wounded men, and a Bristol Freighter, which demonstrated supply dropping.
Brigadier Campbell, speaking at the parade, paid tribute to the R.N.Z.A.F. and said the Air Force presence was significant, for it emphasised the value of air assistance, and the importance of co-opera-tion among the services. All the services were dependent on each other, he said. He said he hoped that the men would not have to apply in conflict the lessons they had learned, but they must realise that this readiness was part of the insurance paid for democracy.
