Mr J. A. Stone has been appointed public affairs officer and officer in charge of the United States Information Service. He replaces Mr T. Driver, who left New Zealand on Tuesday. Mr Stone will arrive in Wellington today. He has been stationed in Laos. —(P.A.) Mr G. F. Wood, assistant goods manager for the Railways in Christchurch, has retired after 40 years with the department. Mr Wood, who began his career as a clerical cadet at Mina in 1926, spent 12 years in the North Island and 28 in the South Island. He had been on the relieving staffs in Southland and Otago and had worked at about 50 different stations. Before his appointment to Christchurch two years ago, he was stationmaster at Hornby. Mr H. G. Lang has been appointed deputy-secretary to the Treasury in succession to Mr N. R. Davis who was recently made secretary. Mr Lang has been an assistantsecretary to the Treasury since 1963.—(P.A.)
