Youngest Grand Prix Driver
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) ' LONDON. The New Zealander, C. Amon, who signed a contract yesterday to drive : for the Italian Ferrari j team, is the youngest grand prix driver in the business. He was born in 1943 at Palmerston and began racing in an Austin Special a year; after leaving school. He had great success in New Zealand in a 250 F Mase- ; rati and later in a Cooper j owned by the Australian, D. McKay. Amon was summoned to j England to drive for the late Mr R Parnell and had his first European race at Good- , wood on Easter Monday, 1963. t When still only 19, Amon I, drove a Lola-Climax for Mr ‘ Parnell in the world Formula ( One championship. Amon has joined the regular Ferrari drivers, L. Ban- , dini and L. Scarfiotti, of Italy, ] and M. Parkes, of Britain.
