PETROL IN GROUND
Tank Had Been Removed
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Nov. 29.
More than 1000 gallons of petrol went down the drain last night at a service station at Birkenhead.
The driver of a petrol delivery truck put the fuel down a filler pipe, unaware that the underground tank attached to the pipe had been removed and that the petrol was soaking into the ground. Today, 15 firemen from two stations cordoned off the area and removed the saturated earth.
