RETAINED TITLES

Ortiz Wins By K.O.

(N.Z.P.A.-Reute r—Cop y rig ht) NEW YORK.

Two American world boxing champions successfully repulsed challenges from French and Filipino fighters yesterday.

In New York, C. Ortiz retained the light-weight title by knocking out F. Elordfe (Philippines) in the fourteenth round of a scheduled 15-round bout.

In Dallas, C. Cokes, the welter-weight champion, retained his title when he outpointed J. Josselin (France) over 15 rounds.

The 31-year-old Ortiz dropped the Filipino with a hard left hook to the jaw and the challenger was counted out while lying motionless.

The result was almost a repeat performance of the first meeting between the two boxers at Manila in February, 1964. That time Elorde suffered a badly cut right eye and the referee stopped the bout in the fourteenth round. It was the first time the 31-year-old Elorde, the world junior light-weight title-hold-er, had been on the canvas in 96 professional fights.
