Wilson Calls Cabinet
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright)
LONDON, Nov. 29.
Mr Wilson called a Cabinet meeting today to weigh chances for a negotiated settlement of the t ear - old Rhodesia independence deadlock.
The other choice for the British Government is to take the crisis to the United Nations by the end of the year.
In a related move Sir Saville Garner, permanent undersecretary of the Commonwealth Office, leaves London by air today for talks in Washington with the United States Government and then in Ottawa with the Canadian Government.
On the agenda for today’s cabinet meeting is a report by the Commonwealth Secretary, Mr Herbert Bowden, on his week-end visit to Rhodesia.
Mr Bowden said on his return yesterday that the Rhodesian Premier, Mr lan Smith, had made “minor concessions.”
Two meetings of key Ministers yesterday gave close scrutiny to these “minor concessions,” and today's full Cabinet meeting may decide whether more talks in the protracted Anglo-Rhodesian discussions are worth while.
