More For Car Inspection

An increase in vehicle inspection service fees from £1 10s to £2 was decided on by the council of the Automobile Association (Canterbury) last evening.

The report of the services and publicity committee said that the general manager (Mr E. S. Palliser) had commented that if a proposal to take the vehicle inspection department away from the headquarters building to a new site in the city area was implemented heavy capital expenditure in setting up the department on the new site would be incurred and this would justify an increase in the present fee. Mr A. I. R. Jamieson had commented that a fee of £2 a service would not be unreasonable. The council also decided the fee for a partial vehicle inspection should be increased from 15s to £l, that the fee for a carbon monoxide test be increased from 15s to £l, and that the fee for a full vehicle inspection plus a carbon monoxide test be increased from £1 17s 6d to £2 10s. The new scale of charges will operate from December 1.
