CHANGING CLUB

The Canterbury soccer representative and the outstanding player in last season’s Chatham Cup final, T. L. Haydon, has resigned from Western. Next year he will be playing for Canterbury’s champion club for the last three years, Christchurch City. Haydon’s resignation was received by Western officials yesterday. He signed to play for his new club on Monday. The transfer will come as a surprise. The 22-year-old Haydon has been associated with Western since he came to New Zealand 12 years ago.

He returned to the club at the beginning of last season after spending two yeans In England where he played senior amateur soccer while on a business trip.

Until he was injured early in the second half of the last season’s national Chatham Cup final against Mira-

mar Bangers, Haydon had looked capable of inspiring a Western win. His injury aided the Miramar’s victory by 1-0. At City, he will join forces with the club’s professional coach, G. Evans, giving a great boost to the team’s forward line and the club’s ambition to win the Chatham Cup next season and its fourth Hurley Shield championship.
