Fendalton Centre Tender Accepted

A tender of £46,160 2s lOd from the Payne Construction Company, Ltd., was accepted by the Waimairi County Council at a special meeting last night for the construction of the Fendalton community centre, shown in the sketch plan below.

The centre will be built on part of the Fendalton School grounds, and will comprise a 3200 square-foot hall, an 850 square-foot play-centre and a 3400 square-foot library which will incorporate a mezzanine floor. Crown land on the school site has been transferred to ■ the council, and in recogni-

tion of the fact that the community centre will be used during the day by Fendalton School pupils, the Education Department has made a grant of £4OOO. In addition, there is a Golden Kiwi lottery profits grant of £11,500. The building, designed by the council’s architect (Mr L. Wooding) is due to be completed by September 1, 1967.
