FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A weakening south-westerly airstream covers New Zealand and a warm front is moving on to the country from the west. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Winds light to moderate and variable, easterlies predominating near the coast in the afternoon; some light rain at first; cloud decreasing; milder.

Marlborough.—North - westerlies, becoming fresh for a time about Cook Strait; otherwise winds moderate and variable; partly cloudy and milder by this afternoon.

Nelson.—Winds mainly light to moderate and variable; south-westerlies, fresh at times, in some exposed places; partly cloudy and mild. Buller and Westland.—Moderate southwesterlies on the coast; elsewhere light to moderate and variable winds; cloudy; light rain at times in South Westland and a few scattered falls further north, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon; rising temperatures.
