Shady Runs Well
"The Press” Special Service HASTINGS.
Woodville candidates provided most interest during trackwork at Hastings yesterday. Among those to please were Shady and Lucky Rebel and Agrlcalist, Aquilegia, Steptoe and Saint Ives also drew attention to their prospects. The course proper trestles were six feet out from the rail and the ground was cutting out a little after rain overnight. The plough was good. but slightly holding. On the course proper the smart two-year-old, Saint Ives (Marchment), which should be hard to beat at Woodville, ran three furlongs easily in 41 2-ssec. Aquilegia and Agrlcalist ran half a mile in 50 3-ssec, the last three in 38 3-ssec. These two have done sufficient work to be hard to beat at Woodville.
Thumbs Up (B. S. Dodds) and Steptoe (R. G. Howell) took 52 l-ssec for a freely run half-mile, the last three in 40sec. Steptoe will have his first race at Woodville and is so fit he could be hard to beat.
Lucky Rebel (F. Grantham) was travelling much better than Golden Rebel (R. Grantham) on completion of three furlongs in 39sec. Lucky Rebel, which has freshened since Riccarton. pulled hard and was most impressive.
Watchet (J. Lundy) and Shady (I. D. Lawson) covered five furlongs in Imin Bsec the last three in 39sec. Shady likes Woodville and could be a threat In next week’s Bolton Handicap.
