“RHODESIA” VOTE Movement Objects To Prediction

(New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON, November 22. Because of criticism by the headquarters of the Aid Rhodesia Movement, the vicechairman of the Hamilton branch, Mr A. E. Payne, and his wife have resigned from the movement.

A week ago, Mr Payne predicted that supporters of independence for Rhodesia would vote heavily for Social Credit because they were so disappointed with the National and Labour policies. In a letter to Mr Payne, the movement’s headquarters said there was an entry in the minutes that requested the society’s officers not to give any press interviews before consultation with the head office.

According to the letter, most of the society’s members were National Party supporters and they had been offended by Mr Payne’s statement.

“By supporting National, the society is supporting the Government’s attitude on sanctions,” said Mr Payne. “I would like to see the Government confirm that it would no longer support sanctions against Rhodesia. This action would win it many votes.”
