SIMPSON SUED
I. Meckiffs Claim (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright > MELBOURNE. The former Australian test fast bowler, I. Meckiff, yesterday claimed unspecified damages for alleged libel from the Australian cricket captain, R. B. Simpson, and the printer and publisher of Simpson’s book, “Captain’s Story.” Meckiff claimed in a Supreme Court writ that his character, credit and reputation had been greatly injured by the book and that he had been held up to “public scandal, hatred, ridicule and contempt.” The five-page statement of claims quotes long extracts from the book. Stanley Paul and Co. Ltd., is joined with Simpson as a defendant as printer of the book, and the Hutchinson Publishing Group Limited as the publisher and distributor. (In Cape Town, where he is leading the touring Australian team, Simpson declined comment on the libel suit).
