ANGRY AFTER DEFEAT
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. The Auckland boxing manager, Mr R. Grimmer, yesterday showed little interest in a return match between T. George and the Australian-based Ghanaian, K. Amarfio.
George lost to Amarfio on a split points decision on Monday night. “I can see no point in a return with Amarfio,” said Mr Grimmer. “As far as I’m con-
cerned George won, even though he didn’t get the decision.”
Mr Grimmer was still annoyed yesterday. He and most others who saw the fight felt George had won one of the toughest contests of his 14bout professional career. But he refused to comment any further on his statement after the fight that George would not fight in Auckland again until the local association obtained referees who could “award points correctly.” He said he would consider officials if and when another fight was arranged for George. After his first fight in Christchurch, Amarfio was bitterly critical of the referee when he lost a split decision to D. Murphy.
