“Will Remain In Power”

The National Party would remain in power after Saturday, said Dr. A. A. Mitchell, senior lecturer in political science at the University of Canterbury, in an address to the Christchurch Tin Hat Club last evening. The Government had had a number of set backs to its prestige in the last year, but not nearly enough to suggest it was in trouble, he said. In addition, there had not been any serious, intermediate economic worries to harm it. “Because of this I do not expect a change of government,” he said. “But do not forget we are living in the stagnant South Island. We do not have the volatile temperament of the North Islanders, who are so much more unreliable than we are,” he said.

City Man as President.—Mr J. A. McNulty, of Christchurch, was yesterday elected president of the Concrete Masonry Association. Mr K. R. Simmonds, of Auckland, was vice-president. The executive is: Messrs B. P. Carr, of Auckland; P. R. Blonkamp, of Hamilton; and J. H. B. Fisher, of Auckland.
