INDIVIDUAL RIGHT

—G. P. A. de Latour (National)

I am contesting the Lyttelton seat at the General Election because, like all New Zealanders, I cherish personal freedom and the right to be an individual. This, I believe, is the underlying philosophy of the National Party and it has made possible the prosperity of our country and opened up the vista of an even brighter future. As a family man, I have great faith in our people, a tremendous admiration for our womenfolk, and the highest regard for our old people who have toiled in order that we might bring up our families in a wellbalanced and secure society. The young people will be shouldering this country’s responsibilities and I believe that the National Government, with its enlightened and everexpanding education programme, is equipping them to do so in a climate that encourages initiative and enterprise, providing opportunities for all and special privileges for none.

New Zealand has justly earned an enviable reputation in aiding undeveloped countries, contributing to famine relief and advancing social welfare. In these spheres much of the credit ■must go to our women who find the time for this charitable work and at the same time bring up our children. I The National Government has a wonderful record of achievement in its- efforts to promote I the lot of our womenfolk and II pledge my support for our women whose efforts are not recognised enough. Debt To Elderly

The debt we owe our elderly people is one we can never hope to repay. Much is and has been done, but I firmly believe that much more is required and if I am

elected to Parliament 1 will work to see that their rewards are more commensurate with the tremendous efforts they have made for us. We of the Lyttelton electorate are a diverse community and to the men I say it will be my privilege, with your support, to represent you all without fear or favour, always safeguarding and promoting your many interests. Finally, as a returned serviceman, I would ask all returned servicemen to stand behind the National Party on November 26 in the interests of our security, so that all of us, young and old, may preserve our way of life and by our efforts enjoy the bounty New Zealand has to offer.
