P.M. ON HAURAKI
‘Statement Was Abbreviated’
(N.Z. Press Association)
WHANGAREI, Nov. 20.
A statement he made in Auckland about members of Radio Hauraki had been abbreviated in newspaper reports, said the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) in Dargaville.
Mr Holyoake was quoted as having said he hoped the ingenuity of the radio pirates, their energy and imagination, would be rewarded by the granting of a licence to legalise their work.
“I don’t say they should be given a licence just because they are radio pirates. “It is the enterprise and the initiative of these fellows which convinces me our policy is right in giving the opportunity for private enterprise in broadcasting.”
