Loss Less Than Expected

The working loss incurred by the Christchurch Transport Board during the four weeks ended October 9 was £377 more than in the same period last year, but at £3999 was £1142 less than had been estimated, the board was told yesterday in the report of the chairman of the finance committee (Mr E. J. Bradshaw). Revenue for the period, at £50,087, was up .6 per cent on last year and was £1029 more than had been estimated, while the 1.3 per cent increase in operating expenses, which were £54,086, was less than estimated by £ll3. The board’s deficiency to date was £96,275, Mr Bradshaw reported. This was an increase of £12,718 over the same period last year, but £6775 less than was estimated. During the period passenger journeys increased by .05 per cent to 1,505,995, and mileage travelled increased by .9 per cent to 355,718. The general manager (Mr J. F. Fardell) had told the finance committee that the revenue for Show Week had decreased by £159 compared with last year, the report said. Revenue for the week was £11,692 13s Id.
