Art Galleries

Sir, —Your report of the annual meeting of the Canterbury Society of Arts attributes to me the statement that if my ideas were followed then the public art gallery would in future have a man of blood instead of milk flowing through his veins. This is not what I said at all. My suggestion was that by the combination of the city gallery with the resources of the Canterbury Society of Arts both in money and ability then we will have a gallery of blood, etc. Would you please rectify this, as your version tends to be an attack alone on the present director of the public gallery.—Yours, etc.,

J. R. QUINCE. November 20, 1966.
