Record In Marathon
(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH.
D. C. McKenzie, the New Zealand champion marathon runner, set a new record for the Westland marathon on Saturday evening when he ran the 26 miles 385 yards in 2hr 20min 24sec. This was three minutes better than the time set for the course last year by C. Reece (Canterbury). McKenzie again showed how unlucky he was to have missed the Games at Jamaica because of injury. The race was won by A. Julian (Fox Glacier) who had a handicap of 50min. He is a cousin of the well-known long distance champion, J. Julian (Auckland). Second place went to P. Timings (Nelson) who had a handicap of 40min. Third was M. Riley (Fox Glacier) and then came McKenzie.
