Interesting Field In Single-Wicket
A field of 16 highly interesting cricketers has been chosen for the Canterbury Cricket Association’s single-wicket competition at Lancaster Park next Sunday.
There is an array of Canterbury’s most aggressive players, supplemented by the former Canterbury and New Zealand player. A. R. Mac Gibbon, now of Wellington; S. N. McGregor, of Otago and New’ Zealand: R V. Webster, a West Indies-born fast bowler from Warwickshire:
K Ibadulla, a Pakiatan test player. Warwickshire professional. and Otago coach; and K C. Murray, one of New Zealand s top golfers, who in earlier years was a Rrabin tournament representative. The 11 Christchurch cricketers playing are C. L. Broad. B. An drews, S. C. Guillen. G. T. Dowling, M. L. Ryan. J. M. Mclntyre. B R. Taylor. D. L. Gallop K. Thomson. B. F. Hastings, and R. C. Motz. The draw for the first round matches 1$: Andrews v. McGregor; Taylor v. Hastings: MacGibbon v. Gallop: Thomson v. Webster: Motz v. Ryan: Dowling v. Murray; Mclntyre v. Guillen: Ibadulla v. Broad The winner of the first such tournament, held a year ago. was Taylor. He has a difficult first-round match against Hastings. who was narrowly beaten in a semi-final last time. In the event of any of the chosen players being forced to withdraw, the replacements will come from R. M. Gearry, J. W. Burtt, and B. G. Hadlee.
