“MINDS MADE UP”

—R. Tirikatene (Labour)

One word frequently used in describing the coming General Election has been apathy. Though this apathy or apparent lack of interest could be true to a certain extent, 1 feel the real character of this election is that people have already made up their minds. Present misgoverning of our country is just too obvious.

Have not we heard all too often: “The country’s in a mess. Should Labour go in and have the mess to clean up? Let them (National) try and clean up for themselves for failing this they’d become almost permanently bogged down.” Of course.the reality is that a National Government on current trends would certainly get bogged down, and consequently our country as a whole.

New Zealand needs a change, a demanding change to Labour, a significant change away from National. Policy material is so readily available that I shall only touch on perhaps the most vital to a more progressive electorate—decentralisation, a more equal balance of all phases of industry and commerce. Rather than have a drift to the north, let us have a shift to the south. After all, look what we have to offer. In being the Rangiora Labour candidate for this the second consecutive time I am indeed highly privileged. To be your next member of Par-

liament 1 would be privileged to the highest. In the past we have had worthy Parliamentary representation, but in all openness the last five years leave too much to be desired.

By voting Labour in 1963 6131 Rangiora electors including myself created such a precedent that now, through continual hard work by so many, along with gains galore from the other two parties and near-unanimous returns back to our ranks, this almost unique electorate of both rich rural and active suburban identities express a unified emphasis—a change for the good.

Rino Tirikatene for Rang! ora—how about that?
