FIELD TESTS IN N.Z.
100 Synthetic Wool Packs
Synthetic wool packs are to be investigated under New Zealand conditions.
Three polypropylete wool packs, made to New Zealand wool pack dimensions, were flown from the makers in Japan in time to be demonstrated by Dalgety and New Zealand Loan Ltd., at the recent Wellington sale. Another 100 packs are now being brought to New Zealand for rigorous field tests. Associated with Dalgety and New Zealand Ltd., in the investigation are W. Scollay and Company Ltd., of Wellington, the New Zealand representative of Sumitomo. One of Scollay’s senior executives, Mr B. Carone, has visited Japan to investigate the production and use of polypropylene for wool packs and similar bulk packaging. Mr W. Pease, chief wool officer for Dalgety and New Zealand Loan Ltd., said his company’s experiments with the new packs was of extreme importance to the future of the New Zealand wool industry. Their adoption appeared to be a means of reducing costs and eliminating contamination of wool by foreign fibres.
