REMEDIES FOR PAIN
Maoris’ Use Of Herbs “How The Maori Cured His Stomach Ache,” was the unlikely title of an illustrated address given by Mr J. Thompson at the monthlymeeting of the Canterbury Botanical Society. Mr Thompson said herbal remedies were used by the Maoris for various internal disorders and other complaints. “But when the Europeans arrived, they quickly took to new remedies,” he said. Another address, “An Arthur’s Pass Visit,” was given by Miss M. R. Hunter. She also showed slides. Results of a native floral arrange ment competition were: Over 12in, Mrs V. R. Hunter 1 and 2. Single specimen, . Mrs L. M. Rose 1, Mr B. F. O’Connor 2.
