La Piggott Top Again (N.Z.P.. 4. -Reuter—Copyright) • LONDON. L. Piggott is the leading jockey for the 1966 British flat racing season. The season ended on Saturday and Piggott, with 191 winning rides, has the championship tor the third successive year. In spite of being out with injury for a large part of the season, the Australian jockey, A. W. Breasley, rode 97 winners and was the second most successful jockey. Another Australian, R. Hutchinson, finished third with 95 winners. Lady Z. Werhner, for 30 years a leading figure on the British turf, headed the winning owners’ list. In a year when women owners did exceptionally well, Lady Werhner owed her success entirely to the feats of the Derby winner. Charlottown. This colt also helped the Someries Stud, of which she is part-owner, to head the list of winning breeders for the second successive year.

For the fourth successive year an Irishman, V. O'Brien, who trained the Oaks winner, Valoris, headed the list of winning trainers. It was his first success. His compatriot, P. Prendergast, headed the list the previous three years. The year’s leading sire was Psidium, winner of the 1961 Derby. This young stallion sired Sodium, winner of the St. Leger. He just had the measure of Charlottesville, the sire of Charlottown.
