Malvern The lead changed again In the Malvern senior cricket competition on Saturday when Greendale beat Sheffield by six runs in a low scoring game. Greendale now leads by two points from Sheffield. The Darfield left-arm bowler, B. Johnston, took all eight wickets that fell in South Malvern's innings, bowling six of his victims. R. Tarrant and R. Gunn shared a breezy opening partnership of 119 for Sheffield. Scores: Greendale 105 (K. Shipley 30: K. Haworth 5/28, D. Deans 4/30) beat Sheffield 99 (D Deans 34, Haworth 28; G. Ridgen 4/31, C. Chapman 3/37). Darfield 155/2 (R. Farrant 75 not out, R. Gunn 50) drew with South Malvern 86/8 (J. Marsh 39: B. Johnston 8/35). The game between Kirwee and Hororata was not played because of rain. Points are: Greendale 29, Sheffield 27, Kirwee 19, Darfield 15, Hororata 12, South Malvern 5. Peninsula Hard . hitting innings by P. Johnstone (Le Bons) and J. Caradus (Akaroa) were the best feats in the Banks Peninsula competition on Saturday. Johnston’s 93 was reached in just over even time but Caradus was even more aggressive. Although Kaituna lost its match to Little River, it remained at the head of the competition after the first round. Scores were:— Le Bons 245 for seven (L. Inwood 53, C. McKay 30, P. Johnston 93, P. McKay 28: B. Woodall 2/93, J. Caradus 3/70) beat Akaroa 244 (P. Ferguson 20, J. Caradus 104, T. Haley 21, T. McNab 47; P. McKay 3/16). Little River 158/9 declared (L. Morrison 27, J. Blakely 82; W. Newton 4/52, B. Neal 2/58, R. Watson 2/8) beat Kaituna 124 «. Neal 38; M. Johnston
4/28, B. Milner 4/39). The Unlted-Wainui match was drawn, as rain prevented play. Points at the end of the first round are: Kaituna 27, Little River 25, United 22, Le Bons 20, Akaroa 16, Wainui 10. Ellesmere Two Irwell batsmen, S. Fox apd M. Heslop, scored 99 each when Irwell raced to a high score against Dunsandel in the Ellesmere senior competition. Declaring at 296 for four wickets, Irwell dismissed Dunsandel for 104. Results: Irwell 296/4 dec. (S. Fox 99. M. Heslop 99, B. Mcßae 56, R. Mcßae 30 not out) beat Dunsandel 104 (I. Chamberlain 26; S. Fox 3/11). Weedons 192/9 dec, (J. Meyer 41, C. Tilson 74, P. Chatterton 26; M. Darclay 5/37), Leeston 36/2. Southbridge 61 (T. Mcllwraith 23; W. Fiecken 5/24), Lincoln 72/0 (W. Scott 62 not out).
