HEARING AT HAAST
A legal authority sat for the first time in the Haast township last week. Mr J. S. Haywood, the Transport Licensing Authority, heard an application by Haast Transport Company (Mr H. J. Ross, Dunedin) “to carry logs and sawn timber under contract for Carter Consolidated Ltd. (Auckland), and its subsidiaries. The application was granted. B. H. Cowan Ltd. (Mr R. G. Sinclair, Ashburton), which was the pioneer carrying company and sole contractor in the area for 18 years before the road was opened, objected to the application.
