Building Cadets Plan Backed
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Nov. 6. An industrial agreement thought to be unique in New Zealand history has been reached by the Master Builders’ Federation and the Carpenters’ and Joiners’ Union, says a statement by the Master Builders’ Federation. It provides for the exemption from building awards of young men, known as building cadets, who are management trainees in the industry. Because these young men spend some of their time learning the trade on builaing sites, although this is only ’ minor part of their fun training, they had previously been by law subject to apprenticeship and award conditions which are not appropriate to their place in the industry.
