1,402,103 On Electoral Rolls
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 4. A record number of 1,402,103 New Zealanders—69,732 more than in 1963—have registered to vote in the General Election later this month.
Figures given by the Chief Electoral Office show a combined European rolls total of 1,349,534 (66,360 higher than at the last General Election) and a Maori rolls total of 52,569 (3372 higher).
Waitemata is again the constituency with most enrolments—2s,249—which represents an increase of 5592. Southern Maori with 11,845 enrolments, 1564 more than in 1963, retains the lowest tally. Piako has 14,745 enrolled electors, the lowest among the European seats.
Twelve seats have smaller rolls than in 1963, with the greatest drop—of 900—in Grey Lynn. Eleven constituencies have rolls showing an increase of more than 2000 voters and another 14 have increases of more than 1000. Building Permits. Nineteen building permits worth £36,512 were issued during October, the Malvern County Council was told yesterday.
