Boy Of 14 Charged
A Halswell fanner, in pyjamas and dressing-gown, answered knocking on the back and front doors of his home in Templeton road about 5.45 a.m. yesterday. He opened the front door and was shot in the stomach from close range bv a single-barrel, 12-1 [ga’i’e shotgun. I The farmer. Hart Leonard Watson Cox, aged 37, married, was taken to the Christchurch Hospital by a St. John ambulance. His condition last evening, after an operation, was reported to be fairly satisfactory. Mrs Cox telephoned the ambulance and nolice. The police cordoned the area, and : a 14-year-old boy was later interviewed by Detective Sergeant P. J. O'Donovan. The boy appeared at a special sitting of the Children's Court on a charge of wounding with intent so as to cause grievous bodily harm. He was remanded for psychiatric examination.
