Johnson Talks With Park

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter —Copyright) SEOUL, November 1. President Johnson and President Chung Hee Park, of South Korea, today discussed the Vietnam war and more American aid for South Korea in talks at the Presidential residence.

A Korean official said details of further American aid to Korea would be reviewed later by officials from both sides.

South Koreans are hopeful that United States credits in place of previous grants will help them to maintain the expansion of their rapidly growing economy, now increasing at the average rate of eight per cent a year. Koreans turned out in large crowds of the second day of President Johnson's visit when he later drove to Seoul’s railway station to

travel to the demilitarised zone separating North and South Korea. President Johnson and President Park first visited the headquarters camp of South Korea’s 26th Division, where the American President presented three silver medals to Korean troops for gallantry in action in Vietnam.

President Johnson spent about an hour with the Korean soldiers, then flew by helicopter to Camp Stanley air strip for a visit with the United States 36th combat engineer group. It includes men from the Army, Navy and Air Force. Thousands of students, both girls and boys, made up the bulk of the crowd along the three-mile motorcade from President Park’s official blue house residence to the Seoul railroad station. The crowd, although smaller than the one which welcomed President Johnson to Seoul yesterday, waved flags of both countries and held up placards bearing pictures of the two Presidents and assorted slogans welcoming President Johnson.
