FUNCTION AT COLLEGE
Anniversary Of U.N.E.S.C.O.
The twentieth anniversary of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, established in Paris on November 4, 1946, will be commemorated by the secondary department of the Christchurch Teachers’ College with special displays of posters, charts and pamphlets of the work of the organisation. The displays will be on show tomorrow and on Friday. U.N.E.S.C.O. gift coupons will also be sold to raise money for Kivukoni College in Tanzania. The associate principal (Mr E. P. Blampied) said this direct link between two secondary educational establishments would give a special interest to students. Students will also be encouraged to subscribe to “The Courier,” journal of UJ1.E.5.C.0., which has special interest for secondary teachers of social studies and languages. A special assembly will be held tomorrow when the Minister of Finance (Mr Lake) will speak and films will be shown.
“We feel it is our duty to promote the ideals of U.N.E.5.C.0.,” said Mr Blampied. “Students must be made aware of the positive contribution they, as teachers, can make to world peace.”
