Exercise In Launch
The Canterbury division of the Royal New Zealand Navy Volunteer Reserve plans to take its motor launch to sea during Labour week-end. Sailing this evening, the launch will arrive in Wellington on Saturday afternoon. The return journey will begin on Sunday and after calling at Port Underwood, the launch will return on Monday afternoon.
The objects of the cruise are night navigational training for junior officers and general sea-keeping experience for ratings. The launch will be under the command of Lieutenant Commander J. F. Allan, R.N.Z.N.V.R. Previous week-end training cruises this year have included calls at Timaru, Akaroa, Motunau and Kaikoura. and on two occasions the launch has exercised with units of the Army.
