“COURAGE NEEDED”
Synod On Union
Without enthusiasm and courage, and a real venture of faith, there would be no reunion of the churches at all, said Mr S. R. Cuming, at the synod of the Diocese of Christchurch. “At the same time we have to see that reunion in the church does not go hand in hand with the disintegration of the church,” he said. “We are not seeking a speedy outside unity, but a deep inner-lasting organic unity. The road will be long and difficult, and we must realise that an ill-step now could bring us not nearer but further from our ultimate goal.” Canon J. O. Ryner said that the motto for church union should be alacrity with grace, or to hurry slowly. He said he was no longer a critic and he now had a very great respect for the ministry of the Knox Theological College in Dunedin. The Presbyterians had every right to be proud of the integrity of their staff in the College. It was agreed that the diocesan Church Union committee report be received. The synod agreed that the Diocesan Church Union committee for the coming year should be; Chairman, the Ven. H. M. Cocks; the Ven. W. M. Davies; the Rev. Canons J. O. Rymer, and R. O. Williams: the Rev. S. M. H. Brown, I. D. L. Cooper, G. Fitzgerald, A. G. Georgantis, W. E. Limbrick, G. S. Lamont, M. J. Goodhall, R. A. Lowe, M. 1. May, E. H. Newman, and A. M. Teulon; Messrs J.
