Decision For Electricians
f.Vetc Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 20. Judge K. G. Archer, the arbitrator in the dispute between the Wellington Harbour Board and its 14 electricians, has decided that the workers should be employed on the same pay conditions they enjoyed immediately before August 2.
Any reduction in earnings suffered by them in the week ending August 9 is to be made up by the board. He found that on August 5
;the board had reduced electricians’ overtime pay and <meal money with the result (that their weekly earnings I fell £2 9s. No notice had been I given to the individual work- ! ers and their consent had not !been obtained. 1 Judge Archer cited a clause lof the electricians’ award .saying: “Nothing in this i award shall be construed so :as to reduce the wages or i privileges of any worker.’’ However, he also found that i subject to the right of the board to end the employment |of electricians by notice unIder the electrical workers’ award, the rates of pay and conditions of employment should remain as at present until settled by agreement or by a new award of the Arbitration Court.
