Rail Limit Eased (N.Z. Press Association i WELLINGTON, Oct. 20. Fresh fruit and fresh vegetables as well as empty fruit and vegetable cases on return journeys may now be carried up to 100 miles with exemption from the rail restriction. This was announced today by the Minister of Transport (Mr McAlpine) when announcing amendments to the Transport Licensing Regulations, 1963. This resulted from recommendations of the recent committee of inquiry into the cartage of fresh fruit and vegetables. The amendment also exempts Justice Department passenger services from licensing when carrying prison inmates who are on pre-release parole to and from outside places of employment when public transport is not available. Transport services in the I Chatham Islands were also | exempted from licensing, Mr McAlpine said.
