(New Zealand Prtss Association) WELLINGTON, October 20. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said today that he had made the “strongest representations” to President Johnson on the question of bilateral trade.
“I expressed to him the strong hope that the United States would be able to purchase greater quantities of New Zealand produce, especially in their requirements in this part of the world.” Mr Holyoake said he and Mr Johnson also discussed AsianPacific area issues, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, the general question of regional co-operation, and Vietnam.
Mr Holyoake said they discussed the “initiatives we hope will come out of the Manila conference, leading, as we all hope, to the ending of hostilities.” Mr Johnson also discussed the Asian situation with the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk). Mr Kirk described the talks as “quite frank.” He said he restated the Opposition's views on Vietnam.
