Changed Hands At $4OOO
The 1964 New Zealand Cup winner, Cairnbrae, changed hands at 4000 dollars after he had won a claiming race at Washington Park on September 21. The former New Zealand pacer, Oreti, was successful on the same course in a race of 4000 dollars run during the week ended October 8. Oreti paced the mile in 2min 2 l-ssec. Vai Averil won in 2min 2 2-ssec at Hollywood Park during the same week, Glenurquhart finishing fourth in the same race. Durban Chief won in 2min 2 2-ssec and Spring Garrison in 2min 3 4-ssec in a race of 4000 dollars. The stake in the race won by Vai Averil was 2700 dollars. Seafield Prince finished third in a race won in 2min, while Flying Blue and Fitment also recorded placings.
Glen Direct won in 2min 3 4-ssec at Yonkers Raceway in a race worth 4500 dollars. Kufra also won at this meeting, while Sir Hugh, Misty Prince and Smoke Cloud recorded placings. Lauder Scott (2min 2 4-ssec), Bruce (2min 4sec), Elbee (2mln 4 2-ssec) and Waiuku (2min ssec) were New Zealand-bred winners at Liberty Bell. The stake in Lauder Scott’s race was 4000 dollars, while the others raced for 2000 dollars. Tactile won in 2min 2 3-ssec at Rockingham Park in a race of 7500 dollars, Smokeover finishing third. Admit won in 2min 4 4-ssec in a race of 900 dollars at Garden City Raceway, St Catherines, Ontario, where Commonwealth was successful in 2min 8 3-ssec in a race worth 800 dollars.
