Hogget Wool Eases Slightly

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 19. Compared with last Friday’s Napier sale, prices at the Auckland wool sale today for ex-tra-fine shorn hogget wools were in buyers’ favour. The market for second-shear showed a hardening tendency, and was firm for all other types.

The sale was the second in Auckland of the 1966-67 season and 16,893 bales of new season’s greasy wool were offered.

Growers generally have accepted these values and passings were about 10 per cent of the catalogues. It was a typical offering for an October sale—largely hogget wool with a few lines of ewe fleece, second shear, and the usual proportion of oddments. Some very attractive, well-

prepared lines of hogget wool were on display, although some lines showed a certain amount of water stain or shed stain. Staple lengths also varied in a number of clips. All buying interests were present, and provided keen competition within defined limits. The main buyers were from the Continent. They were supported by America and Japan. The New Zealand Wool Commission bid in support of a quantity of inferior oddments and occasional lines of fleece. A small quantity was passed to it. The official range of prices is:
