THE SECRETARY
Much of the success of any organisation depends on the efficiency of its secretary and his ability to co-ordinate a multiplicity of activities into a smooth-running machine. In the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association this is the responsibility of a 35-year-old public accountant, Mr G. F. Sheppard, who is a lifetime resident of Woodend. Formerly a North Canterbury senior ' tennis representative, Mr Sheppard has continued his interest in the sport as an administrator. He is president of the North Canterbury sub - association and is its delegate to the Canterbury association. A former secretary of the Canterbury association, he was this year elected to the management committee. Mr Sheppard has long been interested in motor sports and is the secretary of the Motor Racing Club. He formerly played senior Rugby in the North Canterbury competitions. Mr Sheppard is a keen worker on many district organisations. He is a member and secretary of the Woodend Hall Committee; the Loyal Woodend Lodge, Manchester Unity of Independent Order of Oddfellows; and secretary
of the Ashley district of Oddfellows; Mr Sheppard is a past-president of the Woodend Public Library. He is secretary also of the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s allied organisation, the North Canterbury Ploughing Match Association, and treasurer of the Rangiora Golf Club.
