NEW YORK, Oct 19. Elizabeth Arden, who parlayed a 600dollar loan into a multi - million - dollar business in cosmetics, high fashion beauty farms for wealthy women and racehorses, has died of a heart attack in New York.
Miss Arden was born Florence Nightingale Graham and adopted for herself the name she gave to her cosmetic firm.
Until four days ago Miss Arden had been in good health and active. Only 10 days ago she had returned from a trip to Los Angeles to attend a fashion show. “Who’s Who in America” listed Miss Arden as having been born in 1891, which would have made her 75. However, her office said she was 82.
Miss Arden was president and sole owner of the Elizabeth Arden cosmetics firm, which has salons, offices and manufacturing plants throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Latin America.
Her office said Miss Arden had made provision for her world-wide business to be continued after her death.
