Election Issues
Sir, —“Doremus Jessup” claims: “No party will offer a blueprint. for economic planning on a long-term basis.” This is certainly not true of the New Zealand Keynesian Progess Party, whose election policy includes “up to one shilling in the £” of compulsory saving to finance a go-ahead economic plan. We hope “Doremus Jessup” would agree that this is “financially sound.” We would agree with him that “staggered drinking hours” is a suitable subject to be decided by a referendum, but would doubt whether the average New Zealander has sufficiently clear ideas on the complex issue of Vietnam to ensure that a referendum on our Vietnam policy would have a statesmanlike result. As for Maori M.P.s, I personally cannot see that the existing system is “undemocratic,” but this issue has never been discussed by K.P.P. members. —Yours, etc., MARK D. SADLER, Policy Co-ordinator, N.Z.K.P.P. October 19, 1966.
