38,411 Pupils To Sit School Cert.

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 11. The number of children staying at school to sit School Certificate has increased from 43 per cent in 1954 to 62 per cent in 1964.

Dr. E. G. Jacoby, of the Education Department, said today that of the 49,841 children who entered secondary school in 1964, 39,773 would sit School Certificate this year or next. The number of children staying at school longer was steadily increasing in a bid

to get better qualifications for careers.

This year 38,411 will sit School Certificate and 360 will sit for i certificate of attainment. The examinations begin on November 21 —a week earlier than in previous years. The results should be available in mid-January. University entrance examinations begin on November 24 and end on December 6. University scholarship examinations begin on November 21 and end on December 9.
