Unplaced In Skating

(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) ESSEN (West Germany) New Zealand was well down in the world roller skating championships held in West Germany. In the pairs championships, the New Zealand competitors. W. Burrett and L. Butler (Hamilton) were placed thirteenth in a field of 16.

First place was awarded to D. Fingerle and U. Kellar (Germany), who retained their title by beating W. Hafner and G. Hauss (also of Germany). Third placing went to M. Jacques and N. Johnson (United States). In the men’s figures championships, the New Zealand competitors, R. Lindsay and D. Brown (Auckland) were placed twenty-third and twenty-fourth respectively in a field of 25 skaters.

K. Losch (Germany), who toured New Zealand with a team of German skaters in 1963, regained his world title.

Late Entries.— Four late entries will boost to 32 the field for the annual Auckland to Wellington six-day cycle race on October 31. The late entries are C. Scurr (Auckland), H. Kent. N. Lister and H. Schrijvers tPoneke). One of the original field of 29. J. Hutchinson (Australia), has withdrawn.
