Rangiora Borough School

Sir,—As two Form II pupils at- the Rangiora Borough school, we would like to protest at the fact that we are not to be allowed a day off from school on Friday; October 21, for the Rangiora Centennial Show. Surely as this occurs once in 100 years we should be able to be present, as many children are entered in various events on the Friday.—Yours, etc.. TWO DISGUSTED PUPILS. October 6, 1966. [Mr F. T. Hextali, the headmaster of Rangiora Borough primary school, replies: “It was not realised that the Canterbury Education Board had made only four committee half-days available this year instead of the usual six. This had been done to allow the school break-up to be on December 16, a Friday, instead of December 19, a Monday. Traditionally a committee holiday has been held on the Thursday of Christchurch show week and probably a number of parents expected this holiday and have made arrangements already. Two half-days were used for the mid-term break on July 8, so that no more days are available for a holiday on Friday, October 21.”]
