Book Prices
Sir, —“Eukasotes” is to be commended for his comments on book prices in this country. I recently had four texts sent from Britain, the postage on which was under 10s. If these books in the series had been available in New Zealand they would have been 34s 6d each compared with 20s in Britain. Numerous educational paperbacks are increased in price by at least 50 per cent. Bulk freight could not be as expensive as postage. Mr Cameron's remark that New Zealand booksellers have no monopoly on the importation of books appears to be incorrect. There is virtually only one chain of booksellers in this country which has any range of required books at least some of the time, and invariably this turns out to be the wrong time.—Yours, etc., R. E. L. GREAVES. October 10, 1966.
